Prof. Dr. Wang Qiushun | Research Excellence | Research Excellence Award
Zhejiang Institute of Hydraulics and Estuary | China
Qiushun Wang is a Professor-level Senior Engineer and joint master’s supervisor at Hohai University, recognized for his authoritative contributions to estuarine and coastal engineering. With a doctoral background in port, coastal, and offshore engineering, his academic and professional work centers on estuarine tidal dynamics, tidal bore mechanisms, numerical modeling, and forecasting technologies. He has established a strong interdisciplinary research profile that integrates hydrodynamics, sediment transport, coastal morphology, and climate-related impacts on estuarine systems. His research has played a pivotal role in advancing the scientific understanding of tidal bores, particularly in large and complex estuaries. Through high-resolution numerical simulations and three-dimensional modeling, he has revealed the dynamics of tidal bore propagation, energy evolution, turbulence structure, and sediment transport processes. His work also addresses the influence of river discharge, typhoons, shoreline geometry, and sea-level rise on estuarine hydrodynamics, offering valuable insights into estuary management and disaster prevention. In addition to fundamental research, Qiushun Wang has extensive experience in applied engineering and consulting. He has led or contributed to numerous national and provincial research initiatives and has been responsible for the completion of a large number of estuarine and coastal engineering projects. These projects span tidal bore forecasting, estuarine sediment management, seawall safety enhancement, wave-induced circulation, and coastal morphological evolution. His research outcomes have been directly implemented in key provincial and regional projects, demonstrating strong practical relevance and societal impact. He has published extensively in high-quality international and domestic journals indexed by major scientific databases, with many papers appearing in leading outlets in hydraulic and marine sciences. His publications reflect both methodological innovation and application-driven problem solving, strengthening the link between scientific theory and engineering practice. Overall, Qiushun Wang’s work has significantly advanced tidal bore science and estuarine engineering, contributing to safer coastal infrastructure, improved forecasting capability, and sustainable estuary management.
